People in the Niuas can expect heavy rains, flooding and strong winds, Tonga Met services said this afternoon Thursday 8 at 1pm.

It said tropical disturbance td08f was located near 440km west south-west of Nuku’alofa at 10:00am this morning.

It was slowly moving southwest at 14km per hour. Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure lies over the western parts of the group.

Associated clouds with occasional rain and strong winds will affect the Niuas and the western parts of the group, it said.

However, weather forecast up to midnight tonight expects moderate to fresh west to northwest winds moving east to southeast wind tomorrow afternoon, strong at times.

Cloudy and overcast with occasional rain, possible heavy falls with thunderstorm.

Flash flood warning remains in force for the group.
