Prop Sila Puafisi secured contract extensions with Glasgow Warriors.

Tongan tight-head Puafisi, 27, has agreed a contract for another season with Sctolandʻs Glasgow Warriors.

Head coach Gregor Townsend said: “Sila has played regularly for us this season and there’s a lot more to come.”

Puafisi, who has 20 caps for his country and played at last summer’s Rugby World Cup, joined the Pro12 club last summer from Gloucester and has been ever present in the Warriors front-row this season.

Earlier this month, the Warriors signed tight-head Jarrod Firth on a two-and-a-half-year deal from Counties Manukau in New Zealand and Townsend thinks that retaining Puafisi ensures strong competition for places next season.

“Sila integrated so quickly after the Rugby World Cup it was if he’d been a Warrior for the past 10 years,” said Townsend.

Puafisi was pleased with the way he had settled in Glasgow.

“My wife and son really enjoy life in Scotland, so I’m looking forward to the rest of the season to see what we can achieve as well as next year too”, he said.

Right now Kaniva News provides a free, politically independent, bilingual news service for readers around the world that is absolutely unique. We are the largest New Zealand-based Tongan news service, and our stories reach Tongans  wherever they are round the world. But as we grow, there are increased demands on Kaniva News for translation into Tongan on our social media accounts and for the costs associated with expansion. We believe it is important for Tongans to have their own voice and for Tongans to preserve their language, customs and heritage. That is something to which we are strongly committed. That’s why we are asking you to consider sponsoring our work and helping to preserve a uniquely Tongan point of view for our readers and listeners.
