Heilala Festival 2013 to be held June 24

The Heilala Week Festival 2013 is confirmed at Vuna Wharf from  June 24 through to July 6, a post on the Miss Heilala Supporters Face Book page  says.

Former Miss Heilala and strong supporter of the festival, Tafolosa Kaitapu Bloomfield, shared the post and confirmed the date to her friends.

The post went further to appreciate the “Ports Authority Tonga for all the assistance!”

“Village will be up and ready in 2 weeks time! Come let's celebrate what we have accomplish and work towards a brighter future for Tonga,” it says.

"OUR PEOPLE, OUR FUTURE"and that's you and me!

The Heilala Committee has yet to confirm the registration dates for the Heilala week

Last year the festival began on July 16 with a singing and floor-show competition followed by a block party in downtown Nuku'alofa and closed on July 28.

Tonga’s biggest annual festival, that sretches out in two weeks,  unites thousands of Tongans in the islands and from overseas. It features a host of events, including a Miss Heilala Pageant, parades of floats, processions, and music festivals.

Sometimes when a business is growing, it needs a little help.

Right now Kaniva News provides a free, politically independent, bilingual news service for readers around the world that is absolutely unique. We are the largest New Zealand-based Tongan news service, and our stories reach Tongans  wherever they are round the world. But as we grow, there are increased demands on Kaniva News for translation into Tongan on our social media accounts and for the costs associated with expansion. We believe it is important for Tongans to have their own voice and for Tongans to preserve their language, customs and heritage. That is something to which we are strongly committed. That’s why we are asking you to consider sponsoring our work and helping to preserve a uniquely Tongan point of view for our readers and listeners.
