Filipo Motulalo wins 2013 Minister's Awards for Excellence

ACC Minister’s Award for Excellence was presented  at Manukau City last week to Tongan Mr Filipo Motulalo.

After 10 years of working in the government’s Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), Motulalo received the award with great appreciation and encouragement from the ACC Minster Judith Collins.

As a Prevention Consultant Motulalo works primarily for the insurance and prevention services for the Pacific communities including road safety and sports prevention.

Maritime New Zealand initiated The Folau Malu (Journey Safely) programme for the Pacific Island communities in Auckland and Filipo was one of those who pioneered the program.

They have been trained to become “MNZ safe boating advisors” and to assist boaties and “communicate safe boating messages”.

They go to the Pacific people in the communities and directly provide advice of sea safety and “make sure vessel skippers make the best decisions on the water”.

Filipo is married to Losalio Langakali Maka Motulalo and are staying in Mangere, Auckland.

Sometimes when a business is growing, it needs a little help.

Right now Kaniva News provides a free, politically independent, bilingual news service for readers around the world that is absolutely unique. We are the largest New Zealand-based Tongan news service, and our stories reach Tongans  wherever they are round the world. But as we grow, there are increased demands on Kaniva News for translation into Tongan on our social media accounts and for the costs associated with expansion. We believe it is important for Tongans to have their own voice and for Tongans to preserve their language, customs and heritage. That is something to which we are strongly committed. That’s why we are asking you to consider sponsoring our work and helping to preserve a uniquely Tongan point of view for our readers and listeners.
