Old man dies in Vaiola hospital after assault by "close relative"

NUKU’ALOFA, TONGA: Police have confirmed a charge has been made against a 28 old man in relation to a killing at the village of Ha’avakatolo early Saturday 25.

A 79 year old man died in hospital from head injuries.

The accuser is reportedly said to relate to the deceased through his grandfather and has a record of psychiatric treatments in the hospital.

He has been taken to Nukunuku police station where he remains in custody.

The cause of death has yet to be formally released.

The incident came after a 48 year old man from Hihifo was shot with a 22 rifle last week by a drunken man.

Police rushed the victim to the hospital and he was reported to be recovered after receiving treatment while the accuser was arrested and remanded in police custody.
