Brawl avoided between two colleges in Tonga, Police Called

The swift intervention of the locals at the village of Veitongo on the mainland Tongatapu in Tonga averted what could easily have been a major disaster.

Last Saturday evening, about a hundred students from Tupou College, Toloa, arrived by bus to fight students of Tonga College, ‘Atele.

The Tonga College students were reported to have been camping out at a residence in the area.

Police arrived to the help of the village wardens and the students were taken into custody.

It was alleged that the disturbance occurred after the ‘Atele students hurled stones at a Tupou College bus last Friday on their way to return to Toloa.

A local told Tongan newspaper  that they came to aware of the stoning when the bus stopped by the village on Friday where three Tupou College students were reportedly injured by the pelting.

Veitongo village is just about 10 minutes’ walk to ‘Atele where the alleged stoning  took place.
