Visit the Cloud on Auckland’s waterfront this Saturday 2nd March for an all-day event full of activities at the Pacific Showcase Market, Auckland’s newest Pacific market.
Visit the market stalls and discover the best of the Pacific, including fresh and flavoursome foods and beverages and unique artisan products.
Acclaimed Samoan writer, Lani Wendt Young, author of the celebrated Telesa series, is holding a book signing to promote her latest instalment to the series, I Am Liam Tahi.
The stage will come alive with music and performance throughout the day with traditional and contemporary inspired performances, including Drums of the Pacific, Mounga Heamoni Brass Band, Pacific Mana Productions, Tatau Dance Group, Ariki Vaine, Heimana Strings, Julie Ta’ale, and Homemade Entertainment.
Visual artists are on display including internationally recognised Samoan Tatau artist Corey Weir, Niuean drawer Toa Tiahia, Fred Oge and Brian Feni, visual artists from the Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea’s Leonard Tebegetu.
Plus, experience ‘Shot in the city’, a premiere international athletics event featuring double Olympic champion Valerie Adams, hosted by the Pacific Showcase Market. Never before seen in New Zealand, the event is inspired by Zurich’s ‘Big Shot’, an indoor shot put event staged inside the Zurich train station in Switzerland.
From 10pm – 2pm there will be activities for the public at the Shot Put arena inside the Cloud, including ActivePost and Athletics NZ hosting a special event for school children aged 4-8 participating in a range of fun activities. Then from 2pm see the elite shot put athletes as they arrive, warm up and compete.
The Pacific Showcase is a free admission event, operating on Saturdays from 10am to 5pm at The Cloud on Auckland’s Queens Wharf on 2nd and 9th March.
