Well done Fiji

Fiji government has done very well in trying to stop child labour. It showed by the study done from recent years in Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati and Tuvalu highlight two main issues. First and foremost is the increasing numbers of children moving into the worst forms of child labour, especially commercial sexual exploitation and secondly is the problem of out-of-school children and youth unemployment.

David Lamotte, director of the International Labour Organisation for South Pacific island countries stressed another very deep problems concerning the “Human Trafficking which has been on the spot light in the past few weeks.” This concern  made by Mr Lamotte at the Fiji National Child Labour Forum yesterday.

Mr Lamotte suggested that more studies and surveys are needed to set as standards of child labour in Fiji and other Pacific island countries because statistics of children in child labour are absent.
