The Pacific Showcase, Auckland’s Pacific marketplace at The Cloud, is pleased to announce the premiere of ‘Shot in the City’ to be hosted at the Pacific Showcase on Saturday, March 2 at The Cloud on Auckland’s Queens Wharf featuring double Olympic champion Valerie Adams.

‘Shot in the City’ – a unique sporting event, never before seen in New Zealand is designed to bring together the Auckland public and sporting communities in an accessible setting and encourage active lives and participation in athletics.

Inspired by Zurich’s ‘Big Shot’, an indoor shot put event staged inside the Zurich train station, ‘Shot in the City’ will showcase New Zealand Pacific sporting hero, Olympian and 2013 Halberg ‘Sportswoman of the year’ Valerie Adams as she competes against a field of international and local elite athletes. Confirmed for the event is Trinidad and Tobago champion Cleopatra Borel-Brown, with organisers hopeful of announcing another top international shortly.

Adams said the event would be a first for New Zealand. “It is based on Zurich’s Big Shot event, but with a truly Pacific and Kiwi feel, set against the backdrop of the Pacific Showcase Markets in The Cloud. I’m pleased to be bringing our sports communities and Pacific communities together in a day that will be fun for everyone.”

Prior to the main event, visitors to the Pacific Showcase marketplace will have the opportunity to see firsthand the elite athletes as they warm up for the competition, the public will also have the chance to be involved during the day in activities associated with the event.

Throughout the day, the Pacific Showcase will provide the perfect setting for this premiere event, offering a fusion of regional Pacific food, products, music and live performance bringing together all the best that the Pacific has to offer.

Meg Poutasi, Pacific Cooperation Foundation CEO, views the Pacific market as adding vibrancy to this unique event. “The Showcase will bring a festival atmosphere to the indoor sports arena. It’s an opportunity to have a full day out at the Cloud enjoying food, shopping, music and live performance and to see Valarie Adams compete at home with a field of elite athletics in an iconic venue on Auckland’s waterfront.”
