Tonga High School Radiothon

Dear Fellow Ex-Students,

I bring you greetings from a very warm and humid Tonga and hope that all is well with you wherever in the world you may be.

We recently paid our respects to our fellow ex-student, the late Lord Fielakepa, who was put to rest at the Painitu’u ua cemetery last Friday. Those of you with access to Facebook would have seen our condolence message to Tuna and family. He will be missed.

This Saturday the 23rd of February will see us hosting our Radiothon for pledges towards the memorial wall. The Radiothon will be broadcast on Radio Tonga 1 1017AM which will be heard all the way up to the Niua’s and on FM 89.5 which transmits via the internet to the world. The reason for the slight delay was to ensure that our consultation meetings with all our chapters were completed and this was done two weeks ago with our last meeting in ‘Eua after Ha’apai and Vava’u.

For those of you calling in to place a pledge please call +(676) 27-272 this will put you live on to airwaves where you can make your pledge and dedication. The Radiothon will start at 8:30am, Saturday February 23rd, Local time (GMT+13) for Sydney and Melbourne the time will be 6:30am (same day) and if you’re in the US it will be 11:30am (Friday) in London it will be 7:30pm (Friday evening). For those of you who have already placed your pledges and paid your money you are more than welcome to call in and read out your dedication. Our Radiothon will be opened by our very own pioneer, Tuna Fielakepa.

For those of you wanting to place a pledge for the first time call +676 27-272 and we will put you through to ‘Anolo Manu who will host our Radiothon together with Katalina Tohi, Nanise Fifita and others from the broadcasting fraternity in Tonga.

Sometimes when a business is growing, it needs a little help.

Right now Kaniva News provides a free, politically independent, bilingual news service for readers around the world that is absolutely unique. We are the largest New Zealand-based Tongan news service, and our stories reach Tongans  wherever they are round the world. But as we grow, there are increased demands on Kaniva News for translation into Tongan on our social media accounts and for the costs associated with expansion. We believe it is important for Tongans to have their own voice and for Tongans to preserve their language, customs and heritage. That is something to which we are strongly committed. That’s why we are asking you to consider sponsoring our work and helping to preserve a uniquely Tongan point of view for our readers and listeners.
