Police investigate assault in the village of Ha’ateiho.

Police are investigating an alleged assault on a woman in the village of Ha’ateiho, Tonga Deputy Commissioner Taniela Faletau told Tongan Newspaper.

The attacker Mr. Mataiasi Taufa was at  the time currently remanded in police custody on a drug-related kidnapping charge allegedly injured his wife, Ms Mapa Taufa while he was accompanied by a Police officer.

The wife ended up in hospital where he was allegedly treated with hand injury.

Ms Taufa told the paper that his husband regularly visited her while he is in police care but police always contacted to let her know beforehand.

She was not contacted and was surprised when his husband shown up on the day the incident happened.
