The elections align with one of the action points of the Pasifika Education Plan 2013-17: Increase the Pasifika capability of school Boards of Trustees ultilising new resources. Most School Board of Trustees elections will be taking place on May 30 2013, although a small percentage may be earlier. COOK ISLANDS BILINGUAL BOOK SALEDuring the inaugural Cook Islands Language Week earlier this year, four bilingual books aimed at preschool and primary school children were launched. The books are now available to be purchased for only $20 plus GST. The set of four books includes: (1) Inside my home, (2) Colours, (3) Numbers and Parts of the Body. Proceeds will go towards Cook Islands Language Action Plan activities. Youth Parliament is as close as possible to the real thing. Youth MPs have the opportunity to debate legislation, sit on select committees and ask parliamentary questions of Cabinet Ministers. Other government department news:Television is going digital – are you ready?Television in Auckland is going digital in 12 months which means everyone in the region who wants to watch TV after 1 December 2013 will need Freeview or SKY. Over eight out of 10 homes in the upper North Island have already made the move to digital TV and are enjoying better pictures and more channels. You don’t need a new TV as any set can go digital with the right set-top box or TV with Freeview built-in together with a UHF aerial or a satellite set-top box and satellite dish. The guide will give potential migrants key information on immigration advisers and other immigration issues. You can also check out the Facebook page. FundingPACIFIC ARTS DISCUSSION PAPERCreative New Zealand is reviewing the way it supports Pacific arts. They would like your help to identify our Pacific arts funding priorities and policies for the next five years (2013 – 2018). Creative NZ has published the Pacific Arts Discussion Paper, and invite your feedback on the questions raised in it. The discussion paper is published on the Creative New Zealand website and you can read it here. If you choose to write your own submission, with your views and answers to the questions asked in the paper, please submit to us by Friday 8 February 2013.
