Message to AirNZ: Please Drop Costs – Harawira

“With Cyclone Evan causing death and destruction in Samoa, it’s time for our national airline to step up to the mark and ease the burden for worried whanau who live here in NZ” says MANA Leader and MP for Te Tai Tokerau Hone Harawira.

And with the Cyclone now causing carnage in Fiji, most of our Pacific cousins are in need of a helping hand”.

“I’d like to see Air NZ do the following for people from Samoa and Fiji; drop the cost of airfares so that they can get home to help with the clean-up; drop the excess baggage costs as whanau pack with extra supplies that are needed; and for those who were already booked to visit the Pacific Islands over the Christmas holidays, offer a refund if they so wish”.

“My office has been contacted by several Pacific Islanders who are struggling to meet costs being charged by Air NZ”.

“I sincerely hope that during their time of need, Air NZ reciprocate the patronage shown by our Pacific cousins and drop the costs involved in travelling home”.

Sometimes when a business is growing, it needs a little help.

Right now Kaniva News provides a free, politically independent, bilingual news service for readers around the world that is absolutely unique. We are the largest New Zealand-based Tongan news service, and our stories reach Tongans  wherever they are round the world. But as we grow, there are increased demands on Kaniva News for translation into Tongan on our social media accounts and for the costs associated with expansion. We believe it is important for Tongans to have their own voice and for Tongans to preserve their language, customs and heritage. That is something to which we are strongly committed. That’s why we are asking you to consider sponsoring our work and helping to preserve a uniquely Tongan point of view for our readers and listeners.
