Ending relationship led to murder accused – court heard

APIA SAMOA:  Jonathan Patrick Crichton (21) the accuser of murdering taxi driver Faiumu Ete told the court in Samoa that he had committed the killing after a telephone call from his one year long  girlfriend letting him know that she has ended their relationship.

Under great stress determining to commit suicide, he took with him a gun from his uncle’s room and walked along the road looking to seize a taxi intending to crashed it somewhere and to kill himself.

By chance the taxi where Faiumu was the driver  with his brother Siotalia Ete  pulled up and asked if he was looking for a ride.

Mr. Crichton agreed and wanted them to take him to the EPC Cash Power outlet at Vaitele.

Mr Ete told Mr Chrichton that for him to use his service at that point in time the fare is around $20 t0 $40  from Malifa to Vaitele.

The court heard that this intensified Mr Chrichton’s anger over his girlfriend thinking that the driver was cheating and not telling him the correct fare.

On their arrival at the EPC cash power outlet  Mr Chrichton demanded the Etes to leave the car but Siotalia reacted and threw something at him.

The court was told that Mr. Chrichton in return shot Mr. Faiumu.

Mr Crtichton is pleaded not guilty and the court is yet to announce its decision.
